DBS
Dried Blood Spot
Dried blood spot (DBS) testing is a technique used to collect and analyse blood samples in a way that's more convenient and less invasive than traditional methods. Here's how it works:

-
Sample Collection: A small drop of blood is typically obtained through a fingerstick (or sometimes heelstick in infants) and placed onto a special filter paper. The blood is then allowed to dry on the paper.
-
Storage and Transport: Once dried, the blood spot can be stored at room temperature for extended periods without the need for refrigeration. This makes it easier to ship and handle, especially for remote or at-home testing.
-
Analysis: After the sample is dried, it can be sent to a lab where technicians extract the blood from the paper and analyse it for various markers, such as hormones, drugs, viruses, or genetic material.
-
Applications: DBS is often used in newborn screening, monitoring chronic diseases, pharmacokinetic studies, detecting infectious diseases, and even in research. It's less invasive than venipuncture (drawing blood from a vein), which makes it more patient-friendly, especially for infants or those who fear needles.
The key benefits of DBS include ease of use, minimal equipment, cost-effectiveness, and the ability to ship samples without needing refrigeration, making it a widely adopted method for various diagnostic and monitoring purposes.
Your test is analyzed by an independent and GMP-certified laboratory. The fact that Vitas is GMP-certified means that they follow good manufacturing practices. They are a contract laboratory for chemical analysis with 25 years of experience, providing high-quality chromatographic analysis based on cuttingedge knowledge and technology. Included with the blood test is a BalanceTest ID that only you can see.
Neither the lab, nor Zinzino knows who submitted the test. At zinzinotest.com your results will be displayed when you enter your BalanceTest ID. If you have completed the questionnaire, you will have access to the complete analysis. If you have not completed the questionnaire, you will see your balance score only.
